As a port of the South Silk Road and an important town along the Tea and Horse Road, Lijiang has always been the main distribution center of the trade between Yunnan and Tibet. From the Tang and the Song Dynasty when the tea and horse market sprang up to the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, Naxi people of Lijiang has alwyas been the major force. Xinhua Street, the earliest street of Lijiang, paved with slate of different colors, is the earliest key road to and from Tibet. In the Reception Pavition, one can overview the whole town. For those businessmen lived by Black Dragong Pool and Yu River, both accommodation and transaction were very covenient. When the businessmen cooked in early mornings, the cooking smoke all around gave rise to the splendid view of "Misty Willows along Yu River".

黑龙潭承载着丽江古城800年的历史文脉，是丽江的文化之源。

旧时，黑龙潭的干地与水面恰似一幅天然的阴阳八卦图，纳西先人们便在潭中筑了一个八卦形基台，得月楼建筑其上。黑龙潭泄水处是一座开九眼的堤坝，正所谓“阴阳定八卦，八卦定九宫”。水流经中河，河上桥墩梁有双石桥（今玉龙桥）两孔，映雪桥（今大石桥）两孔，万子桥一孔，南门桥一孔，玉龙锁脉桥一孔，共计七个桥孔，称“九宫挂七星”。五府桥旁都设有字纸炉，所设炉数与桥孔相等，雪山书院内也设一炉，共计八，称“七星挂八斗”。

清乾隆元年（1736年），新任知府管学宣在丽江大兴科举制度，一是整顿府学，“首严冒籍”，改变当地人入学少的状况，二是于乾隆四年对“久经倾废”的黑龙潭玉河书院进行重建，三是广泛建设义学馆。

丽江地处南丝绸之路的口岸入茶马古道线上，是滇藏茶马互市，从唐宋兴起到明清时期，以纳西族为主体的丽江人就一直是茶马古道上的主力之一。丽江古城的新华街，街头面由竖关的五花石板铺就而成，是滇藏茶马古道的主要出入段，山脚下设有接风楼，可以尽揽全城。昔日马帮进城晚间都宿在龙潭下、玉河边，既可以就近夜宿又便于就地交易。晨曦中河边的马帮早起做饭，袅袅炊烟升起，呈现出“玉河烟柳”的壮观景象。

Ancient Building Cluster of Ming and Qing Dynasty National Cultural Relic protection Unit

Established in the 2nd year of Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty(1737). Black Dragon Pool consists of a deep pool gathering scores of springs. It is the origin of the water system of Lijiang Ancient Town. The Ancient Building clusters built in the scenic area include Dragon God Temple, Moon Pavilion, Green Bridge of the Qing Dynasty; the building of the Ming Dynasty such as Freedon Forest, Five Phoenix Pavilion and Guangbi Pavilion,and Pence Pavilion and Civilization Gateway built in Qing Dynasty. Besides there is the "Stele forest" gathering 50 famous steles from Tang Dynasty to the Republic of China. With over 4000 volumes of Dongba classics and over 200 Dongba paintings, the scenic area boasts the most Dongba ancient books of largest variety. In 2006, the ancient building cluster of Ming and Qing Dynsasty was selected as a national cultural relic protection unit.

黑龙潭明清古建筑群

全国重点文物保护单位

黑龙潭始建于清乾隆二年（1737年），园内随势错落而建大量明清古建筑群，有清代原建的龙神祠、得月楼、锁翠桥和后来迁建于此的明代建筑解脱林、五凤楼、光碧楼和清代的一文亭、文明坊等建筑，形成了蔚为壮观的“明清建筑博物馆”。同时，景区内还建有“碑林”，50余幢唐至你好时期的历代名碑安放于园内。景区内还珍藏有纳西族东巴经书四千多卷，东巴画二百多幅，是国内外东巴古籍藏量最多，种类最全的地方。2006年黑龙潭风景名胜区明清古建筑群被列为全国理点文物保护单位。

Civilization Gateway

The gate of the Scenic Area is Civilization Gateway. Built in the 16th year of Guangxu Emperor of the Qing Dynasty(1890), it was the former gateway of the Confucian Temple. Screen walls stand on the two front sides of the gateway, with four stone lions of the Ming Dynasty standing ahead. Lively in form and excellent in technique, the lions are heritage of the Loyalty and Righ teousness Gateway moved here. Over the Civilization Gateway the three characters "Black Dragon Pool" written by Li Qunjie, the Director of Yunnan Provincial Association of Calligraphists is hung.

文明坊
黑龙潭景区即文明坊，
建于清光绪十六年（1890年），
原为文庙门坊，
坊前两侧施作入字影壁，
前置四尊明代雕刻石狮。
石狮造生动，工艺精湛，
属忠义坊口遗物，后迁立于此。
坊悬“黑龙潭”三字，
为云南省书法家协会会长
李群杰题写。
